From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
After the sudden passing of our beloved mum. I was at a loss as what to do. A good friend mentioned Graham Minchinton at TH Sanders. This was a great experience at such a sad time. As soon as I walked through the doors Graham Minchinton took us by the hand and all the stress and worry just instantly melted away and I knew we were with an expert and that everything was going to be ok. He made us feel like we and our loved one were the only people that mattered in the whole world during that time. Nothing was ever too much for Graham and he made sure all ran smoothly which it did, he had his work cut out for him with some major last minute changes but he dealt with it all perfectly and in a first class professional manner.
On the day Niall and his team were amazing and the whole event was carried out with dignity and the utmost respect making my memories of a sad day full of peace, warmth and tranquility.
The next time I need this service I know where I am going and who I am going to have take care of it.
Graham Minchington was excellent in providing a dedicated service, showing patience, kindness and empathy. He and his team were courteous and made us feel well supported and cared for. At a time of great grief, we were seen through the hardest of times in a professional yet friendly manner. Many thanks to all at the Ashford Middlesex branch.
I am pleased we were able to help make things easier for you at such a difficult time. It has been an honour to look after you and your loved one and to respond sensitively to your needs.
