From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
I would like to relay my appreciation and gratitude to the team at East Sheen.
The service, commitment and dedication to each client, exceeds expectations.
Emma is one of the funeral planners. The first day I met Emma, you immediately feel welcomed and at ease. A sense of genuine concern and care is relayed. She liases with all the parties involved, to ensure your loved ones day, is special and personalised.
Emma's attention to detail and organisation skills are impeccable. Working under pressure to deadlines isn't easy, whilst handling other clients. I honestly don't know how they manage, as I've witnessed firsthand how manic it can be with phone calls, clients attending the branch for meetings, whilst sorting out funeral arrangements, emails and also following up on companies and preparing the last minute funeral tasks for the services and committals because of later deliveries.
I than met Ian, the Funeral Director. He is such a calm and distinguished gentleman. He has a gentle nature and very eloquently mannered. On my daughters day, Ian and the team were outstanding. They have a protocol to follow and they were very dignified and gracious and treated my daughter with the upmost respect. Even down to the finer details of the teams colour of the ties and Pocket handkerchief was noted. They look so smart and handsome in their suits.
Both Ian and Emma are definitely the right fit for this purpose and I can see they care about the clients and the departed.
I honestly wouldn't know what I would do without their level of service and help whilst dealing with such a great loss. I cannot sing their praises enough and I wish there was some way the company can recognise the team at East Sheen.
Without Emma's dedication..my vision for my daughters day, wouldn't be possible.
I will never forget Emma and Ian.
Thank you for everything and God bless everyone..... Mel

Ian and his team were so amazing with our family during our most difficult time.
They were so helpful and patient with funeral arrangements and on the day of the funeral they were so respectful to our family and helped us through it with support.
I am pleased to hear the team looked after you and the family well. I am glad that our staff went above and beyond to deliver the service you expected.
My family and I are very grateful for the outstanding service provided by Ann and the team. We were made to feel that our son's funeral really mattered and that no request was too big or too small. We wholeheartedly and without hesitation recommend TH Sanders & Sons in Sheen.
We appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Your comments will help us to ensure we are providing the right level of care to our families. It means a great deal when people take the time to share their experience and to highlight individuals in the team who have made a difference.
